Project Overview

A bright, symmetrical living-room installation with integrated seating and timeless inset cabinetry

These custom living-room built-ins were designed to frame an existing window and turn an underused wall into a balanced architectural feature. Two open bookcases provide display space on either side, while the central window bench offers a comfortable landing place and three generous drawers for concealed storage. The symmetrical composition feels original to the room rather than added afterward.

Face-frame inset cabinetry and five-piece maple Shaker doors give the installation a refined, furniture-quality character. Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee keeps the millwork bright and warm without feeling stark, while solid maple countertops, shelf nosing and trim add durability at every frequently handled surface. Flat trim carries the cabinetry cleanly to the ceiling, and vented base trim preserves the function of the existing floor register. Wide upper rails were also planned to receive decorative sconces, completing a built-in that is both practical and carefully integrated with the room.

    Project Specifications

    Construction: Face-frame inset cabinetry with painted veneer-core cases and prefinished maple interiors.

    Door style: Five-piece paint-grade maple Shaker doors and drawer fronts with flat panels and 2 1/4" rails and stiles.

    Finish: Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.

    Millwork: Solid maple face frames, 1 1/2" solid maple countertops and adjustable shelves with 1 1/2" nosing.

    Mouldings: Flat trim to the ceiling and base trim with integrated floor-vent slots and ducting.

    Hardware: Blumotion inset soft-close hinges, Blum Movento slides and hard maple dovetail drawers.
